HOTEL101

Turning a complex investment concept into a story people can understand.

Brand Strategy · Direction · Storytelling · Production · Concept Development

HOTEL101 developed the HappyRoom concept — allowing individuals to own hotel rooms in destinations around the world while HOTEL101 manages the operations. The challenge was to communicate a relatively unfamiliar business model in a way that was simple, credible and exciting.

THE CHALLENGE

The HappyRoom concept was innovative, but unfamiliar to many potential investors.

The challenge was not simply to explain how the model worked. We needed to make the opportunity easy to understand and emotionally compelling — showing investors both the business proposition and the lifestyle behind it.

MY ROLE

I led the project through strategy, creative development and production, working through MOVART and building the creative team around the project.

My role was to translate HOTEL101's business proposition into a clear visual narrative that could communicate the concept quickly while creating a sense of aspiration around the brand.

I led:

  • Brand & communication strategy

  • Creative direction

  • Concept development

  • Storytelling

  • Production

  • Team leadership

  • Client relationship

THE IDEA

Rather than making another straightforward investment video, we wanted to make people feel the opportunity.

The story begins with HOTEL101's expansion into destinations including Los Angeles, Niseko, Manila and Madrid, then brings the audience into the HappyRoom experience.

The idea was to move from:

“Here's how the investment works.”

to:

“Imagine owning a piece of the world.”

The film combined the investment proposition, global expansion and guest experience into one simple narrative.

FROM BUSINESS MODEL TO STORY

One of the things I enjoy most about this type of work is finding the human story inside a complex business proposition.

HOTEL101 wasn't simply selling a hotel room. It was selling an idea of ownership, access and possibility.

Our job was to make that idea immediately understandable — and make people want to learn more.
